Adam A. Bachmeier

Adam A Bachmeier

July 30, 1940 – June 3, 2016

Adam Allen Bachmeier, 75, of rural Towner went to the Lord Friday, June 3, 2016 in Trinity Hospital with family by his side.  Adam was born July 30, 1940 to Joseph and Helen (Voeller) Bachmeier in Rugby, ND.  He was raised on the family farm in the Blumenfeld area near Orrin and attended Rosebush Elementary School.  Adam helped on the farm until the death of his father, then took over the responsibility of the farm and caring for his mother.

Adam considered himself a rancher more than a farmer.  He took pride in raising high quality Horned Hereford cattle.  Adam spent many hours researching pedigrees and put on many miles to source new genetics for his purebred and commercial herds.  He enjoyed visiting with anyone who had an interest in breeding and genetics, with an obvious bias to his “red white-faced” favorites!  He saw the value in retaining ownership in his calves before it was common practice, and for several years he sent cattle to feedlots in Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota to finish.  An annual trip to visit the feedlots where he had cattle on feed had to be made, and often included stops on the way to visit family or friends.  Adam enjoyed good conversation and had a sharp wit.  He always had time for a game of pinochle, and liked to reminisce with family and friends.  Adam had a big heart and a love of children, and took time to talk to the kids at any family get together.

He will be missed by many and is survived by his sisters Eva Duchscherer of Granville, Magdalena Duchsherer of Drake, Helen (Edward) Koble of Harvey, and brothers Anton (Patricia) of Carrington, Phillip (Doris) of Highwood, MT, Joe A (Julie) of Towner; sisters-in-law Alice (Ben) Bachmeier of Minot and Loratta (Leo) Bachmeier of Tacoma, WA, several nieces and nephews and extended family. Adam was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Helen, brothers Nick, Matt, Leo, Ben, and William, brothers-in-law Joseph M. (Eva) Duchscherer, Eustachius (Magdalena) Duchsherer, and sister-in-law Pauline (Nick) Bachmeier.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday June 8th at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Towner with burial in the Blumenfeld Catholic Cemetery #2, rural Orrin.  Fr. Michael Schommer, Celebrant

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday with a rosary and vigil prayer service starting at 7 p.m., all at the Anderson Funeral Home in Towner and will continue for one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Wednesday.

Posted Condolences:

Adam was a good friend of mine.  He will be missed... I had the opportunity to work for Adam out on his ranch off and on for a few years.  I often reflect on some lessons that he had taught me, the old German ways that have slowly dwindled out of modern day society.  He was a very tough man, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to know him.  Rest in peace Adam.

Adam was always a special man to us, whenever we would see him at a family function or visiting with him at the farm we enjoyed our visits. He had a wonderful smile that brightened his face. I remember the last time I was at the farm visiting with him we were looking at some old pictures of the Hereford cattle and family, When we got talking about the cattle he showed me a box full of pictures and some of the stories that went with them. It was so much fun.  May he now be at peace.

The world has lost a very honest, sincere and hard working person.  We will surely miss Adam's absence.  I would like to offer my heartfelt condolence to the immediate and extended members of Adam's family.  May he rest in eternal peace.
