Alice “Grace” Matthews (Marsden), age 89, of Fergus Falls, previously of the Rugby, ND area, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2016, at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
As a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, her unconditional love was a true inspiration. She led by example; showing courage, strength and kindness, all graced with her delightful sense of humor.
Grace was very active in her local Rugby United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, and also volunteered in many charitable projects through the years, both through her church and her community. From her early career as a school teacher, to her final career as a grandmother, Grace always loved children. Together with her loving husband, she built a family and instilled them with values that will be carried on for many generations.
She was a beautiful person, who will be deeply missed. We will always treasure our memories of her as wife, mom, grandma and friend. We rejoice to have had her in our lives, and are grateful for the special gifts she gave us all.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; an infant daughter, Vicky; siblings, Lawrence Marsden, Arthur “Art” Marsden, Marion Biberdorf and Ralph Marsden.
She is survived by her husband Glen Matthews; her sisters, Pat (Lowell) Koppang and Judy Nelson; her children, Tamara (Randy) Gebhardt, Keith (Barb) Matthews, Shelly (George Frein) Matthews, and Jenell (Dan Efron) Matthews; her grandchildren, Kevin (Jenny), Kristen, Alex, Nathan, Alice Grace, Hannah and Serena; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23rd at the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby. Pastor Don Andrews, officiating.
