Anna Doris Atkinson

Anna Doris (Buer) Atkinson, the daughter of Seprian (Severt) and Ingeborg (Krefting) Buer was born July 9, 1931 in Williams County, Bonetrail, North Dakota.  She died at the age of 86 years on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Anna and her family lived on a farm near Bonetrail, ND until she was five years old. They then moved to a farmstead north of Berwick, North Dakota to be near Ingeborg’s family. Anna attended the rural school near her home and upon completing eighth grade she stayed home to help take care of her ailing mother. Anna worked at the Rugby Hospital for a few years prior to meeting Maynard. Maynard and Anna were married July 24th, 1954 and enjoyed 38 years together on their farm/ranch near Willow City, North Dakota. Maynard died April 2nd, 1992. Taking care of the yard, house and her flowers out on the farm were never work in Anna’s eyes and she pursued this love up to the age of 85 years old. Anna had a heart of gold and would do anything she could to help others. Anna stayed very active and enjoyed her time spent with members of the First Presbyterian Church of Willow City, Ladies Aid and the Good Neighbors Club, painting and doing the trim work for area community members with Verna DeMers and baking for the cafe. Anna loved the time she spent as a CNA at the Bottineau Good Samaritan Center in Bottineau, ND where she worked for 25 years.  She was dedicated and devoted to the Presbyterian Church. After the First Presbyterian Church in Willow City closed she and Ruth Atkinson traveled to Rugby to attend the United Emmanuel Church. Anna will be remembered most for her love of Christ, family and friends.

Anna is survived by her children, Karla Atkinson Sattler, Lakota, ND, and her son, Keenan Ty Sattler, Minot, ND, Bradley Atkinson (Robyn) and their son Jason of Willow City, ND, and special family member Ryan (Sonia) Sattler, Willow City, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Maynard, sisters; Astri Hanson and Alice (Buer) Sanders, brothers; Inar Hanson, Coleman Buer and Jennings Buer; granddaughter, Kaitlin Atkinson Sattler; sister-in-law’s Edna Buer and Marjorie Smith Buer; brother-in-law’s Howard Sanders and Harold Atkinson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Emmanuel United Church in Rugby.  Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Willow City at 4:30 p.m..  Pastor Don Andrews, officiate.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby and will continue for one hour prior to the time of the service on Sunday in the Church.

Posted Condolences:

There are very few people who are as special as Anna.  No matter what is going on she is able to bring joy.  She was a very special gift from God. I will miss her.  I was glad that I was able to see her before I deployed.   We talked and laughed for an hour.  I am sad and happy at the same time.  I am sad that i did not get to see her one more time but I am happy that she is with Our Father in Heaven and some day we will be all together praising Jesus.  I thank God for having let someone so special into my life and to be a member of family.  Karla and Brad I love and miss you both.  May God grant you His peace and may this bring you comfort and joy,
God Bless
Dan Buer nephew son of Jennings Buer

Anna was such an amazing women with a big heart and beautiful smile. I loved hearing her stories, she often talked about her children and grand children. I've only known her for a short time but Anna was so loved by many here at the Care Center. Her personality alone would make you laugh and fun to be around her. My heart and prayers go out to her family, I know how much she loved them by all her stories she would share with us. May the lord wrap his arms around all of you and guide you through this tough time, God Bless
