Anna Gertrude Tiffany

Anna Gertrude (Swearson) Tiffany, the daughter of Benoni and Christina (Johnson) Swearson was born in the rural Bantry, North Dakota home of her parents on February 27, 1922.  She died at the age of 95 years on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Anna was raised in the rural Bantry home of her parents and attended grade school at the Polar Grove Township school.  She completed her education graduating from Bantry High School, the class of 1940.  Anna was united in marriage to Richard Tiffany on February 28, 1941 at Towner, North Dakota.  The couple made their homes in several places near Bantry until purchasing their own farm near Bantry in 1948.  There, they raised their family, farmed and ranched for the next 60 years.  A loving, compassionate and kindhearted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Anna also worked outside the home for 20 years with the North Dakota Forestry Service at the Towner Nursery and 30 years in the office of McHenry County Social Services

Anna enjoyed being a member of the Towner Senior Citizens, delighted in dancing and playing Bingo, Richard died July 9, 2000 and Anna remained on her ranch until 2010 when she moved to the Haaland Estates Assisted Living Center in Rugby.  Later, Anna moved to the care center.

She is survived by two sons, William (Darlene) of Towner and Donald of Glendive, Montana; two daughters, Patricia (Robert) McCombs and Mary (Clifford) Hanretty, all of Towner; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband; in infancy, two daughters, Gertrude & Jean; grandson, Wade Tiffany; twin great granddaughters, Amber & Brittany Drader; two brothers, Fred and John “Sonny” Swearson; one sister, Doris Petersen Brown; and her parents.

Memorials in her memory may be directed to the Bantry Union Cemetery or the Towner Fire, Ambulance & Rescue.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21st at the Zion Lutheran Church in Towner with burial in the Bantry Union Cemetery, Bantry.  Pastor Linda Wimmer and Mr. Wally Fretland, officiates.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer service and sharing of memories beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Towner and will continue Thursday for one hour prior to the time of services at the church

So very sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of Uncle Dick and Aunt Anna coming to Oregon to visit. Uncle Dick always had us laughing and Aunt Anna was such a kind, sweet soul. You all have gained such a beautiful angel. Sending love and prayers from Oregon.
