Anton Senger

Anton Joseph Senger, the son of Joseph W. and Elizabeth (Thomas) Senger was born on December 21, 1921 in Orrin, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 94 on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center in Lakota, North Dakota where he had been a resident for the past three years.

Anton was raised in the home of his parents in rural Orrin.  Prior to him being drafted in the U.S. Army, he worked with the CCC (Civil Conservation Corp).  He was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 15, 1942 and served as a Private First Class in the 72D Signal Company (Special).  He was involved with the World War II campaigns in Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.  He was honorably discharged on September 10, 1945.

On August 22, 1945 he was united in marriage to Regarda Lacher in Orrin.  They raised three children, Arnold, Cleopatra and Patricia.  The couple made their home in the Orrin area.  He worked as a rural U.S. mail carrier and in the early 1950’s he farmed land west of Orrin in McHenry County.  From 1960 until his retirement in 1986, he worked for the North Dakota State Water Commission as a project inspector and supervisor.  Anton and Regarda made their home in Orrin until Regarda retired in 1977 and they moved to Bismarck.  In 1988, they moved to Minot where they resided until 2005 and moved to the Prairie Rose Senior Apartments in Lakota.  Regarda died in 2007.  Anton continued to live at the Prairie Rose Apartments until the fall of 2012 when he moved to the Good Samaritan Center.  He was a spiritual man, loved his family and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.  One of the highlights of his later years was the WWII Honor flight to Washington D.C. where he was accompanied by his three children and their spouses.

Anton is survived by his son, Arnold (Lois) Senger of Raymond, MS; two daughters, Cleo (Ken) Pederson of Michigan, ND and Patti (Jerry) Giesinger of Sun Lakes, AZ; 8 grandchildren, Polly (Lariccia), Sharon (Estess), and Anton Senger, Susan (Brandjord), and Nicole (Schmidt) Pederson, Becky (Lee), Brian and Brad Giesinger; 22 great grandchildren; siblings, Edward Senger of Harvey, Elizabeth (Tom) Burgard of Rugby, Msgr. Joseph Senger of Minot, Christine Axtmann of Rugby; Jenny Lemer of Drake and Nick (Bernie) Senger of Rugby; sister-in-law Lucy Senger of Edmonds, WA; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant daughter, Geraldine; brothers, Pete Senger and Adam Senger in infancy; brothers-in-law, Fred Axtmann and Pete Lemer; sister-in-law, Julia Senger; and his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 23rd at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial at 2:00 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Orrin.  Msgr. Joseph Senger, Celebrant, Fr. Tom Graner and Fr. Steven Meyer, Concelebrants.

Posted Condolences:

Your Dad was just a nice guy.  He often visited Mom and Dad when they were residents at Trinity Care Center, and Mom so enjoyed his visits.  He also attended both their funerals, and because Dad was not buried until spring, he also attended Dad's burial.  He also jump started my 1991 Honda Civic at my uncle Nick Lingohr's funeral in Williston, because I had foolishly left the lights on.  I have good memories of both your parents, Cleo, Pat and Arnie.  What a joyful homecoming your Dad is having with Regarda and his brothers and parents.  And most of all our Savior.  My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear this sad news of Tony's passing.  I will always have fond memories of Tony & Regarda and of all of you; their lovely children/family Tony & Regarda are united again and they are undoubtedly, celebrating with a polka, kuchen and visiting with many friends and family up there in the heavens.

Mr and Mrs Senger (we always called them that because, well, that was the respect they deserved) were our neighbors on 22 St SW Minot (we lived next door at #123 until 1996) Nice people. Great neighbors.
Sad to hear they have both passed. Our condolences to the family.
