Arwin Stanley Tofte, the son of Sanford and Bertha (Allickson) Tofte was born August 27, 1926 in Rugby, North Dakota. He died at the age of 87 years on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.
Arwin was raised on the family farm in Tofte Township and received his education at a country school near his home. After he completed his education he worked for Pleasant Lake Elevator and Rugby Creamery. On June 1, 1952, he was united in marriage to Ruby A. Billehus at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 24, 1952. The couple made their home in Missouri until he was honorably discharged on July 23, 1954 and they returned to Rugby. After returning he worked for Pleasant Lake Grain and Feed and later for Rugby Motor Company until his retirement. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, American Legion, and Rugby Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
Arwin is survived by two sons, Doug and David, both of Rugby; a daughter-in-law, Jolene (Ken) Higbee of Knox; Grandchildren, Howard Duck of Rugby, Jennifer Tofte of Bismarck and Justin (Kristi) of Rugby; great grandchildren, Levi, Rylan and Jozie Tofte of Rugby; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; a son, Dwight; a daughter, Rhonda Brossart; a grandson, Travis Duck; and his parents.
Funeral services held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby with burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Clarence Larson Post #23 Rugby Honor and Color Guard and The North Dakota Military Honors Detail. Pastor Dana Holter officiating.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of services on Saturday at the church. |
