Bernice Leier

Bernice C. Leier of Grand Forks and formerly of Rugby died at the age of 84 surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at the Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  She was born on August 21, 1932 to John and Mary (Adams) Pavek in Waubun, Minnesota.  On January 22, 1955, she was united in marriage to Frank Leier at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.  The couple moved to Rugby in 1968 where they made their home and raised their family.  Frank died in 1991.  She was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church, Eagles Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.

Bernice is survived by her sons, Steve (Elizabeth) Leier of Harvey and their children, Stephanie (Jason) Coombs of Bismarck, Meghan (Tyler) Graumann of Harvey, Katrina Leier of Harvey and Michael (Kristen) Leier of Bismarck; Tom (Fran) Leier and their children, Blake (Nicole) Leier of Fargo, Andrew Leier of Fargo and Samantha (Riley) Hengen of Estevan, SK; daughters, Jackie (Clem) Schiele of Lino Lakes, MN and their children, Erika Paasch of Lino Lakes, MN, Justin (Katy) Schiele of Bismarck and Marah Schiele of Minneapolis, MN; Deb Leier of Grand Forks and Kathy (Rod) Senn of Rapid City, SD and their children, Ryan Senn of Tempe, AZ and Kaitlin Senn of Vermillion, SD; great grandchildren, Addison and Grayson Paasch, Mia and Griffin Schiele, Anna, Elise, Mary and Jane Coombs and Franklin, Cecilia, Vincent and Benedict Graumann; twin brother, Bernard (Therese) Pavek of Wadena, MN; brother, Ed (Dory) Pavek of Fertile, MN; sister, Beatrice Steinmetz of Minnetonka, MN; brothers-in-law, Albert (Alice) Leier and Ray (Diane) Leier; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Leier, Barb and Marilyn Pavek; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Leonard, Tony, John Jr. and Lloyd; sisters, Patty Wander and Angie Bloomseth and her parents.

The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness at Valley Eldercare Center.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 26 at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the church cemetery.  Father Tom Graner, Celebrant.

Friends may greet the family from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary and Vigil prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby.

So sorry to hear of the loss of Bernie.  I remember coming to your house and your mom would often greet us and give us grief.  We had fun visiting with her.  I'm out of town the weekend through Tuesday so won't make it to the funeral.
