In the early morning hours of March 4th, 2018, Elizabeth (Betty) Marie Hoffert surrounded by family and under the care of Heart of America Hospice quietly passed from this life to her eternal home.

Betty was born July 4th, 1933 to Peter and Elizabeth (Ripplinger) Weisbeck on the family farm in Knox, N.D. She was one of 7 children—3 brothers and 3 sisters. She attended Knox Public School and then moved to Devils Lake where she worked in a drugstore.  It was while working there that she met the love of her life, Leo Hoffert.

Betty and Leo were married on February 25th, 1952 in Devils Lake. From there, they moved to Leo’s farm near Fillmore, N.D. where they raised seven sons—the center of her world. Terrance (Susan) Fargo, N.D., David Rugby, N.D., Duane (Deborah) Bismarck, N.D., Steven (Sheila) Washburn, N.D., Patrick (Linda) Westminster, CO., Kenneth (Angel) Fillmore, N.D., and Joseph (Wanda) Bismarck, N.D.

Betty’s life on the farm was full of family, gardening, canning, raising chickens, milking cows, playing pinochle and bowling. During this time, she also drove bus (A 1968 Ford Station Wagon) for the Fillmore School District.  She was active in the St. Ann’s Church of Fillmore teaching CCD classes, and as a member of the Altar Society.

In 1979, Betty and Leo moved to Rugby. Here Betty was active in St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church as a member of The Catholic Daughters-Rugby Court, Christian Mothers, and Adoration.  She enjoyed gardening and watching her sons’ grow and raise their beautiful families. They blessed Leo and Betty with 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her husband of 66 years, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Kathleen Weisbeck of Bismarck; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was proceeded in death by her parents, brothers; Bill, George, and Joseph; her sisters, Eva, Theresa, and Caroline; 4 infant brothers and 3 infant sisters; and granddaughters Nonnie Lynn and Nancy Jean.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 9^th at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with spring burial in the church cemetery.  Father Tom Graner, Celebrant
