Carl L. Duchscher, the son of John and Bernadine (Schaan) Duchscher was born on November 11, 1955 in Rugby, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 59 years on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at his home in rural Knox, North Dakota.

Carl was reared in the family farm home of his parents in Pleasant Lake, North Dakota and graduated from Rugby High School, the class of 1974.  Following high school, he continued to help on the family farm until October 15, 1976 when he was united in marriage to Bonnie Tufte at the Leeds Lutheran Church in Leeds.  The following year, the couple lived on several farms in the Fillmore area.  In 1978, they moved to a farm near Fillmore where they ranched, farmed and started their family.  While living at this farm, he served on the Township Board and belonged to the Fishlake Wildlife Club.  In 1990, the family moved to their present home south of Knox where they continued to farm and ranch.  In 2003, Carl decided to leave farming and ranching and took a position with the North Dakota State Water Commission and later as the maintenance supervisor for the Devils Lake outlet. Despite the sometimes overwhelming issues with the rising water in the basin, he thoroughly enjoyed his job, the people he worked with and frequently reminisced about those days.  A decimating health condition forced Carl to retire in 2011.

He had a love of raising & breaking horses for riding.  Throughout the year, he organized several trail rides in the area for family and friends.  Riding horses with any or all of his boys brought a smile to his face.  He loved his family and especially proud of his boys.  He was the family historian, able to remember dates, events, names and places without ever having to write them down.  Carl had the gift of gab, enjoyed visiting people, frequently called people on the phone or would just stop by their places just to see how they were doing.  He was a friend to all and lending a helping hand whenever called upon and sometimes even when he wasn’t.  He was a former member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Fillmore until its closing and Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby.  After St. Ann’s closed its doors, he shared his Christian beliefs with his family at St. Petri Lutheran Church in rural York.  Carl was an avid reader of Western novels and magazines and greatly enjoyed hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Bonnie; his sons, Jason (April) of York, Shane of Grand Forks, Nicholas of Knox and Nathan of Fargo; grandchildren, Blayne, Jaylen and Rylen; his parents of Rugby; brother, John (Ann) of Fargo; sisters, Debbie (Randy) Meduna of Plaza, Dorothy (Chuck) Vedvick of Bismarck, Becky (Ron) Jordan of Rugby, Brenda (Wilson Roberts) Graham of Arizona, Colette (Rodney) Heilman of Jamestown, and Lois (Joe) Clark of Carrington; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and many friends.  

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 20^th at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial at approximately 2:00 p.m. in the St. Petri Cemetery, rural York.  Father Tom Graner, Celebrant.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday with a parish vigil service and sharing of memories at 7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Funeral Home, Rugby.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.  There will be no reviewal in the Church.
