Carol Ione Johnson

Carol Ione Johnson, daughter of Lloyd O. and Margaret (Berg) Johnson, was born December 22, 1935 at Bottineau, North Dakota.  She was raised in the rural Overly, North Dakota home of her parents and attended grade school in Overly, graduating from Willow City High School, the class of 1953.

Carol earned her Associate degree with honors in secretarial science from North Dakota School of Forestry in Bottineau in 1955.  She was employed by First National Bank in Bottineau and from 1957-1958 she attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  While in Minneapolis, she worked in the investment department at the Evangelical Lutheran Church headquarters.  She later worked at First National Bank in Minot. 

In 1968, Carol earned her Bachelor of Philosophy degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, majoring in social work.  From 1968 to 1998, she worked as a social worker/supervisor in child protection at the Grand Forks County Social Service Center in Grand Forks.  She retired in 1998 and returned to the Johnson family farm in rural Overly to be a caretaker for her mother until her passing in June of 2000.  Carol remained on the family farm for the next 18-years.  The farm was her passion and she helped her brothers and nephew with a lot of farm activities, such as helping with moving machinery and preparing meals.  Carol was a member of Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Overly, where she served a number of years as president of the WELCA and also secretary of the church council.  In the recent past, because of serious health issues, she had spent numerous days in hospitals in Minot and Rugby.  Her latest hospital admission was in Rugby, at the Heart of America Medical Center, where she passed away in the Care Center on May 30, 2018.

She is survived by her brothers, LeRoy (Muriel) and Robert (JoAnn) of Rugby, Edward (Dana) of Towner, sister, Marilyn Polk of Bismarck; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and her faithful companion, her cat, Lucy.  Carol was preceded in death by her brother, Donald and sister, Shirley Walker, brothers-in-law, Dan A. Polk and Warren Walker; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 8th at the Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Overly with burial in the Willow Creek Cemetery, Overly.  Pastor James Odden, officiating

Visitation with friends and family will be for one hour prior to the time of services in the church.

I am so sorry for the loss of Carol Johnson's. Carol was such a wonderful women with a beautiful smile and heart. I am so glad I got to meet her and spend some time with her, Carol will be greatly missed, may the lord wrap his arms around her family at this time, many hugs and prayers from my family to yours!
