Caroline Katherine (Weisbeck) Hoffert, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Ripplinger) Weisbeck, was born May 21, 1923 in the rural Benson County, North Dakota home of her parents.  She died at the age of 90 years on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Caroline was reared in the home of her parents in rural Benson County and received her early education in a country school.  Caroline left home at the age of eighteen and worked at the Red Owl in Rugby, and later at Penney’s in Rugby.  Caroline also took her high school equivalency courses at this time and completed a business class in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  She worked in Rugby until her marriage to Peter M. Hoffert on January 14, 1947, in Knox, North Dakota.  The couple lived and farmed in rural Leeds until retiring in 1976.  Before retiring, she worked at Miller Drug in Leeds for several years.  She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary in Leeds, serving as president and as treasurer, and for 20 years she served as a religious education teacher at the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Leeds.  In 1978 the couple moved to Rugby.  Caroline then worked part-time for several years at Johnson’s Department Store.  She was active in the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, both in Leeds and Rugby.  After the death of her husband in 2002, Caroline worked part-time at Borth’s in Rugby for two years.  Caroline was an avid reader and a word and number game enthusiast.

Caroline is survived by her daughters, MeLinda (Rocky) Weimer, Priscilla Anderson, and Charlene (Lynn) Kaspari; sons, Martin (Debra) and Peter (Tammy); eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth (Leo) Hoffert and Eva Theisen; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter in infancy; a son-in-law Tim Anderson; a sister, Theresa Schneibel; three brothers, George, Bill and Joe; and her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Little Flower Catholic Church, Rugby with burial at 1:00 p.m. Friday in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.  Father Thanaiah Marneni, Celebrant.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday  and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby. There will be no Reviewal in the church.

Rosary & Vigil Prayers will begin at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
