Carolyn Julia Voeller

Carolyn Julia Voeller, the daughter of Nick and Johanna (Bickler) Volk was born on March 19, 1924 in Rugby, North Dakota.  She died at the age of 91 years on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Carolyn was raised in the home of her parents and was the oldest of the Volk’s four daughters.  She attended The Sacred Heart Academy in Fargo and St. Scholastica College in Duluth, MN where she earned her BA in music.  After teaching in Iowa, she was united in marriage to Frank I. Voeller.  Returning to Rugby, the couple eventually purchased Carolyn’s family farm and raised their five children, Mark, Stephen, Carla Ann, Mary Kaye and John.  Carolyn formed the first choir at Little Flower Catholic Church and eventually gained state-wide recognition for its excellence.  She was active in Little Flower’s music program for over 60 years.  She provided music for residents of the Haaland Home and was a soloist for many of the community’s weddings over the decades.  Music and her offspring were her life.  Later in life, Carolyn enjoyed Bridge and Pinochle, struggling to play with those who couldn’t count or bid correctly.  She enjoyed both her international trips and traveling the country in their travel home.  She wintered in Arizona and spent summers in Rugby.

Carolyn is survived by four of her children, 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren:  her oldest Mark and his partner Barbara live in Dallas along with his sons, Joseph and Jon-David.  Steve and his wife Kathy who live in Rugby, their daughter Laurie and her husband Chuck Volk and their children Alissa, Brady and Amy, who live near Orrin; Kerri, her husband Todd Allmaras and their children McKenzie and Alexa, who live near New Rockford; Mike, his wife Heidi and their children Hailey and Luke, who live on the family homestead; Jamie, her husband Jeremy Wald and their children Jaden and Reagan, who live in Rugby.  Carla, and her husband Larry Sorenson who live in Watford City; their son Eric, his wife Charlie and their children Lexi and Kane, who live in Watford City; Paul, his wife Dez and their children Corban, Sari and Cora, who live in Watford City; David, his wife Jesse and their children Oakley, Opal and Judd, who live in Bismarck.  Mary Kaye and her husband Terry Privratsky who live in Angola; their daughter, Anna, her husband Brad Fogel and son Soren, who live in Little Rock; sons, Nick and Anthony who also live in Little Rock; Catherine, her husband Ryan Perry and their daughter Abigail who live in New Jersey.  Carolyn’s youngest son John is survived by his wife Bonnie and their children Amber, her husband Tanner Noonan and their children Landon and Rowan, who live in Fargo; Courtney and Brittani.    Other survivors include Carolyn’s sisters, Irene (Duane) Baillie, Emarine Cashin and Dolores Bianco; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband; son, John Francis; a granddaughter, Danielle; and her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 3rd at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the church cemetery.  Father Tom Graner, Celebrant.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary and prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Funeral Home, Rugby and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.  There will be no reviewal in the church.

Posted Condolences:

Dear Voeller family,
Our deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Carolyn.  Know today September 1 is a special day ~ the wedding anniversary of Frank and Carolyn and that of my parents John and Harriet.  The two couples shared many celebrations throughout the years on this day - it would have been my parents' 67th this year - and I know my parents felt blessed with the special friendship they had with Frank and Carolyn.  I had visited with Carolyn three times over this past year (at Edgewood, at Harriet's funeral in January, and again in mid-February when Carolyn joined my dad John, Fr. Tom, and others for dinner in Rugby), and it was so much fun to see how full of life, sharp, and conversational she was with everyone.  Such a distinguished woman ~ Little Flower Parish was blessed for many years with her vocal and musical talents!
John and all of us Heilman siblings were very sad to hear of her passing.
A time of sorrow, yet 91 years to celebrate!
Many prayers ~ The Guthrie family and the Heilman family

For Caroline's Family,  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.  May the memories you have of your Mom comfort you during this sad time.  May God bless all of you.
