Darlene Carolyle Block

Darlene Carolyle (Johnson) Block, the daughter of Lawrence and Martha Isaccson) Johnson was born January 7, 1932 in rural Barton, North Dakota.   She died at the age of 82 years on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Trinity Medical Center in Minot, North Dakota.

Darlene was raised in the homes of her parents in Barton, where she started her education, and in 1948 moved with her parents to Willow City where she graduated from High School, the class of 1950.   On June 5, 1954, Darlene was united in marriage to Marvin Block.  The couple lived on a farm west of Willow City for 10 years, and then moved into Willow City in 1964, where she helped her husband at the school.   In 1973, the couple moved to Towner.  To this union, they were blessed with two children.  A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Darlene also worked outside the home waiting tables at a local restaurant.  She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Towner and enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and friends and prided herself on keeping an orderly home.  Because of declining health this past year, Darlene had been a resident at an assisted living care center in Fargo and most recently she had moved to the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.  Darlene will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Marvin of Towner; a son Mitchell (Kyi) Block of Storm Lake, Iowa; a daughter, Deborah (Scott) Hellman of Fargo; grandchildren, Grant and Clay Block and Jessica Hellman; sisters, Marlys (Donald) Richard of Bottineau and Lorraine Grondahl of Minot; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by sisters, JoAnn Grondahl and Ardith Fahrnkopf; and her parents.

The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Towner with burial in the Union cemetery, Towner.  Pastor Daryl Rothchild, officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Towner and one hour prior to service in the church on Monday.

A Prayer Service and sharing of memories will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, in the funeral home.
