Daryl Ray Badke

Daryl Ray Badke, the son of Raymond and Orline (Peterson) Badke was born on February 22, 1962 in Upham, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 54 years on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the Trinity Medical Center in Minot, North Dakota, in the care of his family.

Daryl was raised in the home of his parents in Upham, where he received his education in the Upham School.  Daryl started the work force at a young age, by helping his dad manage the Laundromat from 1974 to 1978 in Upham.  A work ethic that never did alter in his lifetime, he continued in various capacities until his death.  After the laundromat, Daryl went on to Denver, CO working at a tire shop the summers of 1978 and 1979, worked with Alan Vormestrand hanging siding from ’79-80, helped at the J. Clark Salyer Refuge with his dad in 1980, was a brick layer with cousin Chuck Badke, a production worker for Winger Cheese of Towner, a driver for Al’s Gravel Hauling in Rugby, worked the oil fields for Blocker Drilling and Cardinal drilling.  In 1985, Daryl went into business with his dad and opened D & R Service in Kramer, ND, where he pursued his passion of being a mechanic and continued there until 1991.

On June 6, 1987, Daryl was united in marriage to Eden Harmel of Towner at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rugby.  Daryl moved his wife and daughter, Shanna Rae who was born on May 23, 1990 to take a job in Denver as a heavy equipment mechanic at Pacific Rail Services which became Thomas Transfer in the fall of 1991. The couple welcomed another daughter, Cady Mae who was born on October 27, 1993.  The family loved living in Colorado, but Daryl and Eden wanted to raise their family closer to home with their family and friends, so they moved back to North Dakota in 1997.  Daryl worked at Triple A Repair and as shop manager at Cenex in Towner before taking a job with Mastec Inc. as a mechanic for the machines used for burying cable. Mastec was bought by Wilde Construction and Daryl continued working for them.  He then went to work for Central Trenching Inc., where the people he worked with became his second family, until recently when he had to quit due to his illness.

Daryl always had time to listen to anyone that had a problem of any sort; whether it was mechanics, computers, or even life and most of the time had the answer.  He was the ‘go to’ guy.  He enjoyed riding his Harley, always with Eden on behind.  He loved camping with family, enjoyed hunting in his younger years, spending time with friends and family, and he loved being a grandpa.  His grandkids were the apple of his eye along with his daughters.  He was an amazing, loving, caring and giving husband, father, grandpa, brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle and friend.

Daryl is survived by his wife, Eden; two daughters, Shanna (Justin) Heiden and Cady Badke; two grandchildren,  Hailee Rae and Elijah Daryl Heiden; sisters, Diane (Tim) Kuhnhenn, Sharon Carter and Janet (Richard) Akers; brothers-in-law, Gary (Annette) Harmel, Greg Harmel and Eugene Harmel; Aunt, Evanell Taylor; Uncles, Vernie Peterson & Meryl (Ethel) Peterson; numerous nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Orline Badke and brother-in-law, Sam Carter.

Memorials in his memory may be directed to the Towner Ambulance Service
