Dora Alvina Olson

Dora Alvina (Hermanson) Olson died August 7, 2013 at the age of 93 years.  Dora was born May 22, 1920 in rural Berwick, North Dakota, the daughter of Hallof and Betsy (Iverson) Hermanson.  She attended schools in Berwick and Fillmore, graduating from Berwick High School.

On January 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Oliver Olson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby.  The couple made their home on the Olson family farm, near Barton, North Dakota, where they raised four daughters.  Together, they worked hard, tending to livestock and cropland.  They lived on the farm until May of 2005, when they relocated to Bismarck to be closer to family.  The couple resided at the Waterford, where Dora helped care for Oliver until his death on December 14, 2005.  Later Dora moved to the Edgewood Vista Community and then to the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, where she was resident at the time of her death.

Dora was kind and gentle, with a witty sense of humor.  She was generous and compassionate, always looking to help someone.  She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed children.

She touched many lives and will be missed by those who knew her.  Grateful to have shared in her life are her children, Lynn Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska, Cheryl and her husband, Dan Dew of Mohall, Leanne and her husband, Dan Stroh of Kasson, Minnesota and Bonnie Olson of Bismarck; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; other relatives and friends.  Dora was reunited in heaven with her parents; her husband; two sisters, Myrtle Peterson and Grace Piatz; and her son-in-law, Gordon Johnson.

Rest in peace until we meet again.  We love you!

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 13th at Barton Lutheran Church in Barton with Pastor Mike Pretzer officiating.  Burial will be in the East Barton Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation on Monday, 5 to 7 p.m, with a prayer service and sharing of memories at 7 p.m., all in the Anderson Funeral Home of Rugby.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday, one hour prior to the time of services, in the church.
