Dorothy Jane (Armstrong) Dodge, the daughter of Floyd J. and Hazel (Fox) Armstrong was born March 9, 1926 in Bisbee, North Dakota. She died at the age of 89 years on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.
Dorothy was reared in the Bisbee home of her parents and graduated from Bisbee High School. She completed her education at Minot Teachers College, earning a “War Time Teachers Certificate” and taught in a small country school near Bantry, North Dakota. In the summer of 1946, Dorothy moved to Bakersfield, California where she worked as a nurse’s aide at the Kern General Hospital. In 1952, she went to work for Western Union, starting as a teletype operator, then as cashier and bookkeeper. In 1972, Dorothy transferred to Reno, Nevada to take a supervisory position and remained there until retirement in 1984. Following her official retirement, she moved back to her “roots” in the Bantry and Towner area, moving to Rugby in 1990. Not able to sit still, Dorothy worked a few years as a CNA for the Heart of America Care Center. She was once married to Robert Dodge.
She is survived by one sister, Shirley (Douglas) Keene of San Martin, California; many nieces & nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded death by her parents; two brothers, Donald & Robert Armstrong; four sisters, Frances Canfield, Betty White, Patsy Peterson and Vera Drader
Graveside services will be held in the spring at the Island Lake Cemetery, rural Rolette. |
