Duane Schall

Duane Andrew Schall was born on February 26th, 1954 in Rugby, ND to Nick and Ann (Axtman) Schall.  He and his 2 siblings grew up on the family dairy farm 20 miles south west of Rugby.  After graduating from Rugby High School, Duane took over the 3rd generation family farm.  Duane married his high school sweetheart, Carlotta Schell, on January 20th, 1978.

Duane and Carlotta raised 4 children on the farm of small grains, corn, and cattle.   He put up hay in the summer and loved chopping corn in the fall and then there was the calving, the fencing, the planting, and the harvest.  The list goes on as most farmers know.  He spent most of his life milking cows.  He was no stranger to hard work.  There was always something to be done.

Duane was a lifelong member of St Anselms Fulda Catholic Church (rural Rugby) near his farm.  He had many lasting friendships, along with his deer hunting crew and that crew all grew older with him.  J  The past few years, Duane had helped a friend and neighbor do spring planting and fall harvest.  Duane loved visiting with friends at The Balta Bar and Grill and hanging out with his sister Diane (his partner in crime.)

On March 14, 2018 Duane’s family lost the nicest and most gentle hearted soul that a family could ask for.  Left behind to miss him are:  Wife, Carlotta, his children: Dustin and (Bobbi Jo Blomster) of Minot, Travis and (Tara Solberg) of Minot, Mandy and (Mike) McNeff of Rugby, and Beth and (Phil) Berg of Minot and his 12 grandchildren who so loved their Papa.

Jayda & Jerzie Schall; Carter & Campbell Schall; Mya, Eli, Ann, and Ben McNeff; Ila, Cole, Willa, and Sylvie Berg; his father, Nick Schall Jr. of Rugby, sister, Diane Dodd of Rugby, brother David and (Paula) Schall of Bismarck and nieces, Cindy and (Craig) Williams of Grand Forks, and Becky (and Jamie) Ferensic of Tucson, AZ.

He is proceeded in death by his granddaughter Braelyn Schall, his mother Ann, his uncle Andrew Axtman and Aunt Betty Angstadt.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta with spring burial in the St. Anselms Cemetery, Fulda.  Father Brian Bachmeier, Celebrant

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday with a rosary and vigil prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby.
