Edward Swingen

Edward Swingen, the son of Ingebret and Tina (Tollefson) Swingen was born on February 11, 1929 on a farm near Esmond, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 88 years on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Edward was raised in the home of his parents and attended grade school at Isabel.  He graduated from Benson County Ag School at Maddock in 1947.  He entered the military as a Marine, served in the Korean War from Oct. 1951 to Oct. 1953 and was very proud of his service.  He and his brother Ingvald farmed together in rural Esmond from 1947 to 1989.  During the winter months, he worked several different places including California, Montana, and Nebraska.  After his retirement, he moved to Minot and later to Rugby.  In April 2016, he moved to the Haaland Estates and soon after in December to the Heart of America Care Center.  He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Esmond VFW and Maddock American Legion.  He enjoyed bowling and watching basketball and softball.

Edward is survived by his brother, Lorin (Lorna) of Ralston, NE; nieces and nephews, Mark (Marcia) Hagen of Fargo, Linda Korner and Bonnie (Den) Kuehnemund of Rugby, Dean (Chris) Hagen of Seguin, TX, Lynne Swingen of Ralston, NE and Larry (Barb) Swingen of Malta, MT; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his siblings, Axel “Gilmore”, Helen and her husband Richard Hagen, Ingvald and Teddy; and his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 18th at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Rugby with Pastor Barb Haugerud, officiating.
