Esther Marie (Helmuth) Porter, the daughter of Ervin and Sarah (Miller) Helmuth was born on March 30, 1939 in Rugby, North Dakota. She died at the age of 78 years on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center with her loving husband by her side.
Esther was reared in rural Wolford, North Dakota and graduated Valedictorian from Wolford High School, the class of 1957. She studied for certification X-ray technology and Laboratory procedures. Later, she did advance course work in Radiology. On February 12, 1972, she was united in marriage to David Porter at the Faith Mennonite Church in Minneapolis, where the couple made their home. Over the years, Esther worked in Radiology for Abbott-Northwest Hospital, the VA Medical Center and the University of Minnesota Medical Centers, all in Minneapolis.
Esther was a member of Faith Mennonite Church. Esther volunteered and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and calligraphy. She will be remembered for her unique handmade cards that she sent to family & friends. Esther & Dave enjoyed traveling to Canada, Europe, Jamaica, Italy and Israel over the years together.
Survivors include her husband, David of Minneapolis; sisters, Avis Helmuth of Columbus, Ohio and Miriam (David) Lynnes of Bottineau; brothers, Ervin Jr. (Ruthann) of Mylo; Sanford of Columbus, Montana, Virgil of Wolford and Herschel (Tammy) of Glendive, Montana; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Carol Austin; one brother-in-law, Lorne Austin; one sister-in-law, Sheryl Helmuth and two nieces, Michelle and Audrea Helmuth.
Visitation and Viewing will be held on Sunday, October 29th from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service and sharing of memories beginning at 7 p.m. in the Anderson Funeral Home, Rugby.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 30th at the Lakeview Mennonite Cemetery, rural Wolford. |
