Evelyn May (Cummings) Wandke, the daughter of Leon and Donna (Saxton) Cummings was born on May 1, 1917 in Dunn County, Wisconsin. She died two days before her 98th birthday on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Trinity Medical Center Hospice in Minot, North Dakota.
Evelyn grew up on a farm northwest of Richey, Montana and graduated High School there, the class of 1935. On November 29, 1936, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Wandke in Nashua, Montana. The couple lived in the Fort Peck, Montana area as Robert was working on the construction of the Fort Peck Dam. The Fort Peck Dam is the highest of six major dams along the Missouri River located in northeast Montana near Glasgow. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Evelyn followed Robert’s career with Cenex making their homes in Butte, Great Falls and Williston. In 1993, the couple moved to Towner, North Dakota.
Robert died July 12, 2003. Evelyn continued to live on her own and in her home until her death. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, embroidery and rug making. Evelyn had a servant’s Heart, always considering the needs of others before her own.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Orrin) Nelson of Towner; two sons, Robert (Adriana) of Atherton, California and Lowell of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Todd and Christopher Nelson and Jonathan Wandke; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers; and her parents.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 1st at the Zion Lutheran Church in Towner with Pastor Linda Wimmer officiating. Burial will be private. |
