Floreen Eleanor Barnes

Floreen Eleanor (Sjorbotten) Barnes, the daughter of Einar and Florence (Cowan) Sjorbotten was born on November 11th, 1935 in Fargo, North Dakota.  She died at the age of 79 years on Friday, November 6th, 2015 surround by her caring family at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Floreen was raised on the family farm near Horace, North Dakota.  She was very proud to be a 1953 Oak Grove High School graduate and a 1958 alumni of NDSU in Fargo.  Following graduation, Floreen worked as the McLean County Extension Agent in Washburn, North Dakota.  While in Washburn, she met and was united in marriage to Virgil Barnes on February 8, 1960 in Mandan.  The couple started their family in Washburn before moving to Crosby and later moved to Rugby.  In 1967, they made their home in Towner where Virgil worked at the FSA office and Floreen continued her life as a homemaker.  Virgil died July 24, 2012.  Following his death, Floreen continued to make her home in Towner until she moved to the Haaland Estates Assisted Living in Rugby.  Floreen enjoyed reading the bible, attending bible studies, listening to Christian radio and spending time socializing with family and friends.

She is survived by her three sons, Scott of Bloomington, Minnesota; Brent (Regina) of East Meadow, New York; and Wade (Shari) and their sons Logan and Layton all of Killdeer, North Dakota; a brother, E. Maynard (Diep) Sjorbotten of Long Beach, California; other relatives and friends.  Floreen was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, an infant sister, Elaine Janis and her parents.

Memorials in her memory may be made to the Union Cemetery of Towner, the Haaland Estates of Rugby or the Donor’s choice.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 11th at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Rugby with burial in Union Cemetery in Towner.  Pastor Nathan Steen, officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of services at the Church.
