Floyd Wright

Floyd Peter Wright, the son of Carter and Clara (Dokken) Wright was born on July 12,1935 in Rugby, North Dakota.  He died suddenly on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in the ER of the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

He lived his early years and started school in the Pleasant Lake area.  His family moved to Oberon, North Dakota in 1946 and he graduated from Minnewaukan High School, the class of 1953.  Following high school, he went to Seattle, Washington to work for the Boeing Corporation until he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.  When he was honorably discharged, Floyd returned to Boeing until enrolling at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where he would concentrate his studies in engineering.  On a summer break during his college years he enjoyed being part of custom combining crew.  On September 9, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Olson in Rugby.  The couple made their home in Grand Forks until Floyd graduated in 1962 earning his BS degree in Industrial Engineering.  After college, he and Carolyn returned to Seattle where he resumed employment with Boeing.  He was later transferred to the Redstone Arsenal at Huntsville, Alabama, where he worked on the Saturn Space Program.  In 1971, Floyd joined the Army Corps of Engineers, first on the Missile Project at Nekoma, North Dakota and moved to Texas, where he worked as Civil Engineer Project Manager on various projects in the Southwest Division. Floyd retired from the Corps in 2004 and the couple made their home in Burleson, Texas.  He enjoyed his family and grandchildren, travel, working on building projects and anything dealing with concrete.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Carolyn of Burleson, Texas; a daughter, Deborah Wright and husband, Eric Haapala of Powell, Ohio; a son, Harold P. Wright and his wife, Yanling Chen of Burleson, Texas; four grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Gerald, Carol O’Connell and Janice Heigel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Hubert, Harold, Samuel and Donald; a brother in infancy; sisters, Marian, Rosaline, Helen and Jean; and his parents.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 3rd at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Rugby with burial in the East Barton Cemetery.  Rev. Nathan Steen, officiating.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of services on Sunday.
