Frieda Eugenia Mettler

Frieda Eugena (Mehlhaff) Mettler, the daughter of Fred and Eva (Stein) Mehlhaff, was born July 27, 1912 in rural Upham, North Dakota.  She died at the age of 100 years on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.

Frieda was raised in the Upham, North Dakota area where she received her education.  On September 17, 1933, she was united in marriage to Gideon Mettler at the Peace Reformed Church in Upham.  The couple farmed southwest of Upham in Deep River Township until their retirement in 1972 when they moved into Upham.  The couple moved to the Harold S. Haaland Retirement Home in Rugby in 1997 and in 2006, they transferred to the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.  In 2007, Frieda and Gideon celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.  Gideon died on March 26, 2008.

Frieda is survived by her daughters, Allene Lamoureux of Cupertino, CA, Ione (John) Carlson of Poulsbo, WA, Marie (Elroy) Alderink of Chelmsford, MA; sons, Art (Carol) of Loveland, CO, Merle (Esther) of Otsego, MN, Albert (Kathryn) of Wing, ND, and Milo (Mary Ann) of Ridgeway, IA; a son-in-law, Bob Hunskor of Newburg, ND; 29 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; a sister Hulda Gehring (108 years) of Cincinnati, OH; several nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Irma Hunskor; a son-in-law, Vincent Lamoureux; two sisters and six brothers.


Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Rugby with burial in the Peace Reformed Cemetery in Upham.  Mr. Robert Hunskor, officiating.

Visitation: will be for one hour prior to the time of services on Saturday in the funeral chapel.
