Gloria Jean Sampson, the daughter of Samuel and Myrtle (Johnson) Sampson was born on January 29, 1952 in Bottineau, North Dakota. She died at the age of 63 years on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Life Skills and Transition Center in Grafton, North Dakota.
Gloria was baptized at Bloomfield Lutheran Church in Upham, North Dakota. She was born with Rett Syndrome. She was raised in the home of her parents until 1958 when she went to live at Grafton State Development Center. For a few years, she was a resident at San Haven in Dunseith until returning back to Grafton. Gloria was involved in Relay for Life, Operation Christmas Child, ‘Groovin with the Smoothies‘ and the Backpacks program for school children, all offered through the Center. While living at the Center, Gloria took numerous sight-seeing trips, enjoyed going shopping, music, scrapbooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her mother of Towner; brother, Jim of Seattle, Washington; sisters, Doris Holen of Upham, Marilyn (Harvey) Sveund of Towner and Melinda “Lyn” (Bob) Hamel of Fargo; nieces and nephews, Sheila (Kent) Brown, Tina (Scott) Maghakian, Harlyn Sveund, Shannon Sveund, and Suzanne Hamel; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father; and two nieces, Marcia Holen and Danielle Radke.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 17th at the New Hope Lutheran Church in Upham with burial in the Little Deep Cemetery. Mr. Wally Fretland, officiating |
