Gloria Ann Vaughn

Gloria Ann (Hrycyna) Vaughn, the daughter of George Stefan and Isabella Barbara (Urbanski) Hrycyna was born on June 17, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  She died at the age of 93 years on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Gloria was raised in the home of her parents on the eastside of Milwaukee with her older sister, Loraine and younger brother, Jerome.  She graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee in 1940.  She was very artistic and learned to sew and crochet from her mother who was a seamstress.  Before she had a sewing machine, Gloria made hand sewn clothes for her own daughters and their dolls.  She also sewed her children’s Halloween costumes.  Gloria would use crochet patterns but usually made her own changes to the patterns.  She worked at Blue Star then worked at Cutler and Hammer.  She met her future husband, Darvin Vaughn, through her sister Loraine’s husband, Bernhard Bartz, who was Darvin’s cousin.  Gloria was united in marriage to Darvin on January 6, 1945.  The couple had a small farm in North Dakota until 1947, when they decided to move to Milwaukee.  She loved children, when he niece (her Goddaughter) returned to work, she babysat for her two children and they adored their ‘Auntie Glorio’.  After Darvin’s retirement, they moved back to the family farm to live fulltime.  While living on the farm, Gloria loved to watch the birds and other wildlife.  She lived to plant flowers in her garden and did a lot of canning of vegetables from their garden.  Darvin died on December 25, 2012.  Gloria made many friends during the time she lived in North Dakota and was loved by all.  She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, homemaker and friend.

Gloria is survived by her children, Catherine Vaughn-Koren (John) of Hereford, AZ and Cheryl (Bruce) Modjeska of Milwaukee, WI; other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Loraine (Bernhard) Bartz; her brother, Jerome (Marie) Hrycyna and her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 4th in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, Rugby.  Friends may call for one hour prior to the time of services. Chaplain Rev. Don Barsness, officiating.
