Harry P. Anderson, the son of Henry and Angelina (Lindemood) Anderson, was born February 26, 1929 in Kenmare, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 84 years on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck from complications due to cancer.

He attended Prosperity School through the 8^th grade and graduated form Sherwood High School in 1947.  He farmed with his father until 1951, when he was drafted into the Armed Services.  He served for two years during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington.  After he was discharged, he returned to the farm.  In 1954, he was united in marriage to June Becker and began raising their family of seven children.  In 1964, wanting to expand his operation, he moved his family to the Denbigh/Towner area where he leased the Eaton Ranch and ran a commercial Angus cow-calf operation.  In 1969, he began putting together his current ranch located south of Towner.  In the 80’s, Harry transitioned out of his Sherwood farming operations, which is currently owned and operated by his daughter, Lana and her husband Jim.  In 1997, Harry purchased the ‘silver Spur Bar in Surrey and later renamed it the Full Moon, where he would ‘occasionally’ lend a hand but more often rolled dice and told stories with friends.

Harry was involved in many organizations during different phases in his life including, Renville-Bottineau Ag Improvement, Renville and McHenry County Farm Bureau, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Towner Beef Producers, Towner Horse Racing, Towner Scale Association, Republican Party, McHenry County 4-H, North Dakota Stockman’s Association, North Dakota Brand Committee, Shriners, North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame Trustee and a member of “50 Years in the Saddle” Club.  He loved the ranching business and lived at the ranch until his death.  In later years, he relied much on his son Randy and grandson Shane along with some loyal hired help to assist him with the ranch.  He felt he met some of the best people in the world in the cattleman and cattlewomen of North Dakota.  As he lay in his hospital bed, he gave his last directive on the ranch to turn the bulls out with the herd.  “It’s all good, new life on the ranch begins as I finish my work here.”

Harry is survived by his children, Deb (Al) Madden of Ringsted, Iowa, Randy (Karla) Anderson of Towner, Craig (Dawn) Anderson of Alto, Texas, Lorie (Frank) Klein of Carrington, Jayme (Karen) Anderson of Poynette, Wisconsin, Lana (Jim) Southam of Sherwood, Chad (Pam) Anderson of Peyton, Colorado; grandchildren, Josh, Nathan, Tara, Shawn, Shane, Chris, Sheri, Brandon, Katie, Tyler, Molly, Madison, Hayley, Seth, Sara and Scott; great-grandchildren, Rylah, Raegan, Aubrey, Myles, Wyatt and Stella; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many many friends.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorrah Weed; a bother, Martin Anderson; and his parents.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to the Shriners Crippled Children.

Memorial services held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Towner.  Mr. Wally Fretland, Officiating. 

Friends may greet the family from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Towner with a prayer service and sharing of memories beginning at 7:00 p.m.
