Herbert Richard Filler, Jr. the son of Herbert and Antonia (Welk) Filler Sr. was born at Martin, North Dakota on January 10, 1935. He died at the age of 77 years on Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.
Herbert was raised in the rural home of his parents near Martin and received his education in the White Township School east of Anamoose. On November 16, 1955, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Pfeifer at the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Drake, North Dakota. Following their marriage, Herbert and Rosemary made their home on a dairy farm near Minot and also worked for many years for Eatmore Sausage Company in Minot. Later, the couple moved to Orrin, North Dakota where they started a dairy farm which he and the family operated for the next 47 years. Herbert and Rosemary where blessed with ten children. In 2008, the couple retired and moved to Rugby, North Dakota.
Herbert was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Orrin, was township supervisor for Elling Township for many years and enjoyed membership in the Knights of Columbus and the Eagles. In his spare time, he enjoyed work, it almost his middle name.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary of Rugby; children, Linda (Joel) Lemer of Carrington; Karla (Mike) Martin of Anamoose; Terry (Brenda Whitham) of Arnegard; Mary (Tim) Volk of Glasgow, Montana; Bonita (Robert) Townsend of Layton, Utah; Scott (Tammy) of Rugby; Renae Johnson of Carrington; Cory of Depere, Wisconsin; and Jason (Jill) of Kindred; 26 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, Lloyd (Phyllis) of Winner, SD, Vernon (Geraldine) of Coalville, WA and Charles of Pierre SD; five sisters, Margaret (Tom) Graves of Lexington, SC, Helen (Bill) Ruppel and Beatrice Hayes, all of Puyallup, WA, Karene (Maurice) Helm of West Cola, SC and Shirley (Edward) Weigel of Velva; a sister-in-law, Caroline Filler of Mobridge, SD; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy; two brothers, James and John Filler; one sister, Annette Marie Filler; and his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 4th at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the Holy Cross cemetery at Drake, North Dakota at approximately 3:30 p.m.. Fr. Tom Graner, Celebrant; Fr. Brian Bachmeier and Fr. Neil Pfeifer, Concelebrants.
Visitation: will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby. There will be no reviewal in the church. |
