Joe C. Bailey

Joe Clyde Bailey, the son of Roy Clyde and Agnes (Hellerud) Bailey was born on November 1, 1939 in Granville, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 76 years on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Joe was raised in the rural home of his parents.  After completing his education, he worked for a number of the local ranchers.  He also worked for Walter Otto Construction for several years and the McHenry County Soil Conservation District planting trees.  On July 1, 1966 he was united in marriage to Myrtice Livedalen.  In 1967, he bought his parent’s land and began his ranching career.  He raised gelbvieh and red angus cattle and for several years he sold registered red angus bulls.  Due to health issues in 2007 he became a consultant to his nephew who rented his land and cared for the cattle.  Because of his love for the land and his cattle, he could never get himself to sell the cattle.  Joe served on the McHenry County Soil Conservation District Board as supervisor for 30 years, was a supervisor for Riga Township for 36 years and a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Towner.  He enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains, a stewardship of the land and trees, enjoyed gardening and canning the fresh produce, hunting deer, and playing cards.  He loved his nieces and nephews who always put a sparkle in his eye.

Joe is survived by his wife of 49 years, Myrtice; sisters, Annabelle (Clifford) McBeth of Towner and Jenell (Kenneth) Rollman of Garrison; brother, Jerry (Linda) Bailey of Towner; sisters-in-law, Rose Bailey of Granville and Gloria (Gerald) Kurtyka of Rugby; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Bonnie) Livedalen of Towner and Roger (Linda) Livedalen of Towner; numerous nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his sister and her husband, Shirley and Lloyd Moen; brothers, Vernon and Jon Bailey; nephews, Larry Bailey, Keith Rollman, Ty Livedalen and Keith Hanson; parents-in-law, Albert and Dorothy (Solie) Livedalen; and his parents, Roy Clyde and Agnes Bailey.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 24th at the Zion Lutheran Church in Towner with burial at 4:30 p.m. in the Granville Community Cemetery, Granville.  Pastor Linda Wimmer and Wally Fretland, officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a prayer service and sharing of memories beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Thursday.

The family would like to invite everyone to join them after the burial at 4:30 to the Granville Senior Citizen Center for a time of fellowship and sharing.
