Joyce Elaine Scott

Joyce Elaine Scott was born on August 17, 1928, in Rugby, North Dakota. She was the daughter of William and Myrtle (Dokken) Meyer. Joyce was baptized as an infant on April 1, 1929, at Pleasant Lake, North Dakota, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, at First Lutheran Church in Rugby, North Dakota. She received her education in Rugby and was a graduate of the Rugby High School Class of 1946.

On April 14, 1946, Joyce was united in marriage to Marvin Scott at the courthouse in Rugby, North Dakota. This marriage was blessed with four daughters, Lynda, Connie, Nancy and Cynthia.  Joyce and Marvin resided in Rugby, Velva, and Underwood, North Dakota, Egan, South Dakota and Hutchinson, Minnesota. They shared 54 years of marriage until Marvin passed away in Rugby, North Dakota, on January 16, 2001. Joyce moved back to Hutchinson in 2009.

Joyce was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She also was a substitute teacher and worked part-time at the Ladybug Hair Salon in Flandreau, South Dakota.

Joyce enjoyed gardening, playing cards and quilting. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Joyce and Marvin were members of a couples bowling league. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.

When Joyce needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of Augustana Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel, Minnesota, on March 23 2011. She passed away there on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the age of 84 years.

Joyce is survived by her: Children, Lynda Kuntz of Flandreau, SD, Connie Saloum and her husband, Alex of Hutchinson, MN, Nancy Brendsel and her fiancé, Mike Jones and his son, Kyle of Onamia, MN, Cynthia Benson and her husband, Leon of Montevideo, MN; Grandchildren, Brenda Schramm and her husband, Russ, Sherry Peters and her husband, Don, Laura Peters and her husband, Doug, Jeremiah Brendsel, Jerad Brendsel, Scott Saloum and his wife, Tracy, Stacy Olson and her husband, Gene, Eric Saloum and his wife, Willow, Brooklynn Benson; Great Grandchildren, Derek and Mackinsey Schramm, Brandon, Taylor, Shalyn, Tristan, Trevor, Braden, Kolby and Tyton Peters, Jaymeson, Rylie, Spencer and Kyra Saloum, Samantha, Cori and Kelsi Olson, Aiden Jones (Brendsel); Brother, Jerry Meyer and his wife, Mavis of Minot, ND; Sister, Dorothy Miller of Minot, ND; Many other relatives and friends.

Joyce is preceded in death by her Parents, William and Myrtle Meyer; Husband, Marvin Scott; Great-Grandsons, Tyrel and Zachary Peters, Payton Schramm; Sister, Delores Vangsnes; Brother, Will Meyer; Brothers-In-Law, Virgil Miller, Joel Vangsnes.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the First Lutheran Church in Rugby with spring burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby and will continue for one hour prior to the time of services on Wednesday at the church.
