Katherine "Katie" Hoffart

Katherine “Katie” (Fettig) Hoffart, the daughter of Fred and Regina (Salwey) Fettig was born August 20, 1929 in the rural Orrin, North Dakota farm home of her parents. She died at the age of 83 years on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the St. Aloisius Care Center in Harvey, North Dakota.

Katie was raised on the family farm three miles north of Orrin and received her education in a rural school near her home. On October 11, 1949, she was united in marriage to Peter Hoffart at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Orrin. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm south of St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Fulda church until 1961 when they moved to their present location a mile away. Here, they raised their family and farmed. Pete and Katie remained on the farm until July of 2012, when Katie needing more care, they moved to Harvey where she entered the Care Center.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Katie worked side-by-side with Pete in the farming operation and in 1995, she started working at the Towner Nursery until March of 2012. Katie cared for her father for 20 years in her home until his death. She was a member of St. Anselm’s Catholic Church in Fulda until its closing, a current member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby and enjoyed a lifetime membership in the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She took pleasure in gardening, baking Kuchen and buns, making chokecherry jelly, milking cows, and no visit was ever complete without a pan of cherry dessert.

She was survived by her husband of 63 years, Peter of Rugby; one daughter, Kathleen (Mark) Wood of Houston, Texas; three sons, Richard (Faye) of Rugby, Albert (Betty) of West Fargo and Art (Addie) of Bozeman, Montana; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Cecilia (Conrad) Ziegler of Harvey; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters in infancy; one brother, Johnny; and her parents.
