Leo Hoffert

Leo Hoffert, the son of Martin and Elizabeth (Thomas) Hoffert, was born on May 31, 1925 in Rugby, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 93 years on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

 

Leo was one of eleven children, eight boys and three girls.  His family farmed near Silva, North Dakota and then moved to the Fillmore area.  He attended the township school through the 8th grade and then the Ag School in Maddock.  Leo took over the family farm in 1950.  He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Marie Weisbeck on February 25, 1952 in Devils Lake.  They raised seven sons on the farm north of Fillmore.  During this time, Leo was very active in his farming community, serving on numerous boards, driving bus, and having a hand in helping to build the Fillmore Catholic Church.  In 1979, Leo and Betty moved to Rugby.  Leo was active in the St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church by serving on the cemetery board and as a 4th degree Rugby Knights of Columbus member.  He also served on the Rugby Public School board.  Leo was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He enjoyed going out to the farm and helping out any chance he got.

 

Leo is survived by seven sons, Terrance (Susan) of Fargo, David of Rugby, Duane (Deborah) of Bismarck, Steven (Sheila) of Washburn, Patrick (Linda) of Westminster, CO, Kenneth (Angel) of Fillmore and Joseph (Wanda) of Bismarck; 17 grandchildren; 13 Great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Adolph Noce of Glendale, CA; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brothers, Anton, Peter, Louie, Balzer, Michael, Albinus and Joseph; his sisters, Veronica, Ann and Therese; granddaughters, Nonnie Lyn and Nancy Jean and his parents.

 

 

 

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 16th, 2018 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial at the church cemetery.  Father Tom Graner, Celebrant.

 

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday with a Rosary and vigil prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  There will be no reviewal at the church.

 

The Casket Bearers:  Jared Hoffert, Sean Hoffert, Joshua Hoffert, Nicholas Hoffert, Cody Hoffert, Leo Hoffert, Alexander Hoffert, Jesse Hoffert, Christopher Hoffert and Anthony Hoffert

To the family of Leo Hoffart Hoffert: My love and sympathy to the family. Leo was my DOUBLE cousin. My Uncle Martin was my Dad's brotherand Aunt Lizzie(Elizabeth was my Mom's sister. As a child, we spend many a Sunday at the farm in Fillmore. Life changes, but the love of family is never ending.
