Lloyd Marchus

Lloyd Arthur Marchus, the son of Arthur and Helen (Hanson) Marchus was born on March 13, 1940.  He died at the age of 76 years on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Lloyd was raised in Knox, where he attended school and graduated from Knox High School.  On December 9, 1966, he was united in marriage to Linda Knutson in Rugby, North Dakota.  The couple lived in Montana for a time before they made their home and raised their family in Knox.  Lloyd was a man of many trades, he farmed, had a well drilling business, worked construction, drove truck and served as the Mayor of Knox for 23 years.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand.  He enjoyed wood working, building with his tools, playing fiddle and listening to bluegrass music.  He would always tell the girls that bluegrass music was ‘the good stuff’!  He was an animal enthusiast – there was more than one occasion when he would come home and have some kind of animal with him, our favorite was a baby fawn who we named Baby.  He and Linda were quite the sports fans, they loved watching the NBA and following their grandchildren’s sporting events.  Many may recall Lloyd standing on the basketball court high-fiving all the basketball players as they made their entrance into the gym…he loved those Bearcats!  He was a hardworking husband, father, son, brother and grandfather.  He loved his family very much, making memories and sharing a special bond with each girl.

Lloyd is survived by his seven daughters, Lori (Donn) Beck of Cando, Bobbi Jo (Andy) Helgeson of Dickinson, Jill (Toby) Armstrong of Wolford, Tara (Darold) Schmaltz of Rugby, Dawn (Bill) Mahle of Knox, Jodi (Damian) King of Maddock and Nicole (Alan) Black of Devils Lake; brothers, Gary (June) Marchus of Bismarck and Ron Marchus of Bismarck; 26 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; infant son, Scott; grandson, Dustin; brother, Roger; sister, Carol Rathjen; son-in-law, Mark Sell and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 20th at the First Lutheran Church in Rugby with spring burial in the Knox Lutheran Cemetery, Knox.  Pastor Elaine Sveet, officiating.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Tuesday.
