Lloyd Henry Opstedal

Lloyd Henry Opstedal, the son of Fred and Betsy (Kjorvestad) Opstedal was born on July 12, 1912 in Kohlmeier Township, Rolette County, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 100 years on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.

Lloyd was raised in the rural Rolette home of his parents and received his education at Dewey School #2 in Rolette County.  On November 2, 1940, he was united in marriage to Muriel Tuff of Rugby at Rolla Lutheran Parsonage in Rolla.  Their son Daryl was born November 11, 1942.  The couple purchased a farm in Finnegan Township in 1943 where they raised their son Daryl, farmed and made their home.  Lloyd was a member of First Lutheran Church in Rugby, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Rugby and for many years a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Minot.  In 1987, the couple retired from the everyday farming operations and moved to Rugby.  He enjoyed dancing, card parties, visiting with friends and listening to his son’s band.  But most of all, he loved farming and spending time with his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Muriel; grandchildren, Darren (Barb), Jeff (Vicki), Brion, all of Rolette, Dale of Minot and Melissa (David “DJ”) Anderson of Rugby; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister, Stella Lunde of Rugby; brothers-in-law, Ralph Berg and Dennis (Lore) Tuff, both of Rugby; sisters-in-law, Lois Tuff of Rugby and Bing Shuley of Pullman, Washington; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his son, Daryl; his parents; sister, Tena Berg; brothers, Roy, Stanley and Nels.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 22, 2013 at the First Lutheran Church in Rugby with spring burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.  Pastor Mike Pretzer, officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Monday.
