Lois Hazel Dumdai

Lois Hazel (Randle) Dumdai, the daughter of Walter and Hazel (Allan) Randle was born February 23, 1933, her mother’s birthday, in Rugby, North Dakota.  She died at the age of 86 years on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at the St. Aloisius Care Center in Harvey where she had been a resident for the past five years, receiving the best of care one could ask for.

Lois lived in the home of her parents and started elementary school in Baker, North Dakota and graduated from Maddock High School, the class of 1952.  Following her graduation, she worked for a time in Minneapolis  and later at the telephone office in Rugby. After her marriage to Elburn Dumdai in 1955, the couple lived for a short time in Washington State.  They returned to the Knox, North Dakota area where they farmed until Elburn’s health forced him to retire.  Two sons were adopted to complete their family, Daniel in 1965 and James in 1967.

Lois was active in 4-H, Tops Club # 439 and a local birthday club.  She was an avid crafter and was well known for her decorated horseshoes.  She also enjoyed gardening, canning, making tons of (very good) pickles, baking, collecting cookie jars and Campbell Soup memorabilia.  Lois was a life-long member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren and its ladies’ group  until its closing in 2009.

She is survived by her son, Daniel of Harvey; her brother Owen and his wife, Judy of Minot; sisters-in-law, Doris and Ardis Randle of West Fargo and Betty Randle of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; special friend, Rae Ann Lynne of Maddock; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Lois was preceded in death by her husband; infant daughter, Cheryl; son James; brothers, Elvin, Arlin, Duane, Lyle and Earl Randle; brother-in-law, Donald Dumdai; sisters-in-law, Louise and Lucille Randle and Rose Dumdai; nieces, Janet Walker, Darla Dumdai, Sharlene Kjosa; nephews, Kevin and Keith Dumdai; mother & father-in-law, Gust and Amanda Dumdai; and her parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Heart of America Library in Rugby,

the Pleasant Valley Cemetery Fund or the charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27th at the Emmanuel United Church in Rugby, with pastor Don Andrews, presiding.  Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery in rural York at approximately 4:15 p.m.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
