Lucille J. Genre, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 1st, 2019, at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake, ND.  She was born on the family ranch in McHenry County, North Dakota on June 3rd, 1926 to Austin and Mabel (Oberdier) Dugan and was raised on the family ranch.  Lucille was a 1943 graduate of Towner High School and attended Minot State University where she majored in Education.  She met the love of her life, Wayne Genre, and the couple was united in marriage on July 15th, 1944 in Spokane, WA, while Wayne was serving in the United States Navy during WWII.  On August 1st, 1945, Lucille and Wayne were blessed with the birth of their only child, Dennis Wayne Genre.  After Wayne’s discharge from the service, Lucille and Wayne made their home in the ranching community North of Towner, ND where they bred, trained, and showed champion quarter horses and appaloosas, and raised angus cattle.  Lucille’s soulmate, Wayne, passed away on June 15th, 1983 – she never remarried.

Lucille taught school in several communities throughout North Dakota, weighed cattle at Minot and Rugby Livestock, and in later years ran a successful dog grooming business in her home.  Lucille was also known as an avid and well-respected horsewoman; her most distinguished accomplishment in the saddle was obtained by winning the World Arabian English Pleasure Championship, held in Madison Square Garden, in New York City.  Lucille was also sought after as a horse show judge, and was considered by many to have a, “good eye” for an animal.  Lucille was active in her community, having served several officer positions in various organizations, including: North Dakota Appaloosa Association, Barton Sportsmen Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, Towner Senior Citizen’s Center, and St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents, Austin and Mabel Dugan; her brothers, Patrick and James Dugan.  She is survived by her son, Dennis (Arlene) Genre of Towner, ND; Grandson, Ryan (Kristie) Genre of Sheynne, ND; Granddaughter, Susan (Terry) Eback of Devils Lake, ND; Granddaughter, Tiffany (Randy Anderson) Genre of Vinita, OK; Grandson, Cassidy (Shyane) Genre of Towner, ND; Grandson, Connor (Samantha Lashman) Genre of Minot, ND; brother, O’Leary Dugan of Rolette, ND; six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 5th at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Towner.  Father Michael Schommer, Celebrant.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday with a prayer service and sharing of memories beginning at 7:00 p.m. led by Wally Fretland at the Anderson Funeral Home in Towner.

Posted Condolences:

Lucille was very dear to me. She would take care of Buddy for me and always was his groomer during the years. Also we were in close touch at The Center with Business matters. She was a symbol of Country Life to me and a dear friend. May she rest in peace.
Special thoughts & Prayers, Betty Ring
