Margaret Troyer Ruud, the daughter of Oscar and Hilda Hanson Aubol was born July 20, 1921 in Berwick, North Dakota. She died at the age of 94 years on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at the home of her son, surrounded by family and friends.

Margaret was raised in Berwick and Fairdale, ND. After graduation she attended Mayville Teachers College. She met Robert (RB) Troyer whom she married in 1942. During World War II RB and Margaret worked at the Naval Shipyards in Bremerton, WA. After the war, they returned to Rugby, where RB went into business and Margaret attended nurses training at Good Samaritan. In 1946 their son Douglas was born. Margaret then stayed at home to raise their son. After the tragic death of RB in 1952, Margaret remained in Rugby running The Mint Bar and The Dairy Cream Drive-In while raising Doug. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, PTA and a member of many other local organizations. A mutual friend of Margaret's arranged a blind date with Robert (Bob) Ruud and the two were married in 1957. In 1968 Margaret and Bob moved to the Puget Sound area of Washington State. Bob worked as an auditor for the Tradewell Corporation and Margaret stayed home and volunteered for numerous local organizations. Margaret is fondly remembered for her love of pets and opening her home to foster care for dozens of stray pets. Margaret and Bob remained in Washington until 2003 when they moved to San Francisco to be closer to their son. Her pet dog, Chloe, made the move and rarely ever left her side.

Survivors include her son, Doug Troyer of San Francisco, CA and numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Orrin and Eldou and sister Herbena (Aubol) Nygard.

Margaret was a small town girl at heart. She loved having lived in Rugby and frequently reminisced about her lifelong friends and family that lived there. Family and friends meant everything to Margaret and the love she gave them was unconditional. She will be missed by her friends and family but will live on in their hearts and memories forever.

May God grant her eternal rest in His Kingdom along with her family who went before her along with a long list of beloved pets.

First Lutheran Church in Rugby or Lake Metigoshe Ministries.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 1^st at First Lutheran Church in Rugby with burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.  Pastor Elaine Sveet, officiating.
