Marla June Yoder

Marla June (Sather) Yoder, the daughter of Marlin and Arla (Hanson) Sather was born in the rural Rugby, North Dakota home of her parents on June 16th, 1938.  She died at the age of 75 years on Tuesday, January 14th, 2014 at the Southview Estates Assisted Living in Rugby, North Dakota.

Marla was reared in the homes of her parents, first a few miles southeast of Rugby and then moving to a farm in Spring Lake Township where she attended Spruce Hill #2 country school near her home.  Following her father’s death, the family moved to Wolford, North Dakota where she completed her education, graduating Salutatorian of the Wolford High School class of 1956.  While growing up on the farm, she had a great passion for horses and going to horse shows.  On December 16th, 1956, she was united in marriage to Edwin Yoder in a double wedding ceremony the couple shared with her mother, Arla Sather and Harvey Yoder in Wolford, North Dakota.  The couple made their home and raised their family in Rugby.  A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Marla enjoyed cross stitching, crocheting, gardening, decorating for the holidays, going for rides in the country to see the crocus bloom, camping, travel, fishing, dancing, playing musical instruments and most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren.  For the past five years, she has been under the loving and compassionate care of LaDonna Salmonson and staff at Southview Estates.

Marla is survived by her husband of 57 years, Edwin of Rugby; her children, Marcy (Douglas) Smith of Minot, Michael (Patti) of Devils Lake, Mark (Marilyn) of Rugby and Mickolette “Mickey” (Kent) Jaeger of Minot; five grandchildren, Dustin (Nichole) Yoder, Nathan (Amanda) Yoder, Austin Yoder, Gage and Ridge Jaeger; four great grandchildren, Monica, Brandie June, Hadley Marla and Tyson Yoder; a brother-in-law, Dave Fought of Indiana; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father; one brother, Boyd; and two sisters, Opal Mundahl and Bonnie Fought.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 18th at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby with spring burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.  Pastor Dana Holter, officiate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with a time of prayer and sharing of memories starting at 7 p.m. in the Anderson Funeral Home, Rugby.  Reviewal will be held in the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the time of services.

Ed and Family,
I was saddened to hear that Marla had passed away. I will always remember what a super grandma she was to her boys and all the pictures she took when they were little. Marla always had a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face for everyone. Treasure those fun memories. My sympathy for your loss.
