Michael Joseph Schneider

May 23, 1925 - August 9, 2016

Michael Joseph Schneider, 91, of Anchorage, Alaska formerly of Balta and New Rockford died Tuesday, August 9 at the Commorant Cove Assisted Living Home in Alaska.

Mike was the second youngest child of Ignaty and Barbara (Geisinger) Schneider. He was born on the farm near Balta, North Dakota on May 23, 1925. He attended school in Balta and received his sacraments at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Balta. He farmed with his brother John until the late 1950’s at which time he moved to New Rockford, North Dakota to continue small grain farming. During this time he also became a private pilot, bought his first plane, and became a member of The Flying Farmers. In the early 1970’s he left farming to become an airplane mechanic. Mike was an avid sportsman. It was his love of hunting and fishing coupled with being an airplane mechanic that eventually brought him to Alaska where he lived out his days.

Mike was a kind and caring man who loved a good laugh. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews, good friends, and the many God-Children whose lives he blessed over the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and five sisters.

Interment will be at The Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Balta, North Dakota.

Arrangements are with Janssen’s Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Alaska and Anderson Funeral Homes in North Dakota.

A rosary and prayer service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20 in the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of services at the church.
