Mona was raised in the rural Rugby home of her parents and graduated from Rugby High School, the class of 1943. She completed her education at a Business School in Chicago, Illinois, earning her certificate in medical transcription. Mona was united in marriage to Henry Jordan on April 13, 1946 in Sidney, Montana. The couple made their home on the Sveum family farm near Rugby. To this union four sons were born. Sadly, Henry died at the age of 46 on January 20, 1966. Following Henry’s death, Mona purchased the farm from her Mother, making her home for the boys and herself until 1969. On September 20, 1969, she was united in marriage to Harold Lyngstad at First Lutheran Church in Rugby. The couple made their home on Harold’s farm north of Rugby. Harold died February 20, 1996. Following his death, Mona moved to an apartment in Rugby. Cupid again came into her life, on December 17, 2002 when she married Walter Johnson in Great Falls, Montana. They returned to Rugby where they made their home and enjoyed each other’s company. Walter died May 9, 2009.
Mona was baptized in the Rugby Methodist Church, remaining a member there until 1969 when she married Harold, becoming a member of First Lutheran in Rugby. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, farmer when called upon and a homemaker, she also worked outside the home as a transcriptionist for the Good Samaritan Hospital and later as an administrative assistant at the Haaland Home until retirement.
While the boys were going up, she took an active role in 4-H & FFA, and later being with them and their families. She was a member of First Lutheran, its WELCA and Quilters, the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, the Heart of America Auxiliary, the Everhelpful & Helping Hand Homemakers Club, Sons of Norway, the Rugby Senior Citizens and Senior Citizens Choir. She loved flower and vegetable gardening, handy work, making dolls, quilting and crocheting. In her “spare time”, Mona made numerous wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes for family and friends.
