Myrtle Iva Fisher, the daughter of Warnie and Ethel (Philbrook) Cargo was born on November 5, 1913 in Webster, South Dakota. She died at the age of 102 years on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Trinity Homes in Minot, North Dakota.
Myrtle was raised in Bantry, ND and graduated from high school in 1933. After completing her education, she worked for the Bill Leach family taking care of their daughter until she married. On August 8th, 1935, she was united in marriage to James Elder Best in Towner. They purchased part of his family farm and started their family, a son Roger and twins, Sharon Lee and Karen Kay. Sharon Lee died in 1943. Elder died on August 3, 1951. On September 29, 1955 she married Alton Fisher of Bantry and added his son’s Patrick and James to her family. She was very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Towner where she served on session several times, bible studies leader and chaired many other committees, Republican Women and Homemakers. She enjoyed baking and decorating her home. Myrtle loved people, being around them, helping in any way she could and her greatest joy was her family. She was friendly, had great wit and sense of humor and enjoyed hosting guests in her home. She always made everyone feel welcome and will be greatly missed. Alton died on December 26, 1984.
Myrtle is survived by her son, Roger (Mary Jo); daughter, Karen Kay Ford; step-son, Pat (Deborah) Fisher; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Elder Best and Alton Fisher; daughter, Sharon Lee Best; step-son, James Fisher; great grandson, Max Best; brother Clyde (Virginia) Cargo; sisters, Gertrude (Wesley) Naslund; Miva (Roy) Best and Betty Jane (Ceil) Gibbs; and her parents.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to the Presbyterian Church in Towner or the Union Cemetery, Towner.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Presbyterian Church in Towner with spring burial in the Union Cemetery, Towner. Pastor Don Andrews, officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Towner and will continue for one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Saturday. |
