Natalie Peterson, the daughter of Lloyd and Gertrude (Schuppel) Guss was born in the Good Samaritan Hospital on April 23, 1921 in Rugby, North Dakota.  She died at the age of 94 years on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Northridge Care Center in New Hope, Minnesota. 

Natalie was raised on the family farm northwest of Wolford.  She attended the Wolford School for twelve years, graduating as Valedictorian in May 1939.  In March 1940, she enrolled in the Chillicothe Business College (CBC) in Chillicothe, Missouri.  On June 12, 1940, she was united in marriage to Allan Peterson.  At that time, Allan was also enrolled in the Chillicothe Business College.  After graduating, they returned to Wolford where Allan was employed by Standard Oil of Indiana operating the gas truck.  Natalie, in later years, operated two Standard Oil gas pumps from their Wolford home for a period of ten years.  The couple was blessed with two daughters, Naomi and Vicki.  Three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren were added to this union which made their joy complete.  Natalie was active in the Wolford PTA, Band Boosters, Rebekah Lodge, Homemakers, and was also a 4H leader.  She was deeply devoted to her family and at their request wrote several family stories of the Schuppels and Gusses.  She completed an unpublished book, ‘The Schuppel Saga’, lovingly dedicated in memory of her mother.  Natalie also wrote several Depression Era stories which were published in the “Pierce County Tribune” and are archived in the State Historical Society of North Dakota in Bismarck.  Selected stories were also published in ‘Creativity Connections’ (University of Wisconsin-Madison) and in ‘The Country Today’ (Eau Claire, WI).  Since 1960, Natalie and Allan sponsored several children through World Vision and Children International.  To celebrate their Golden Anniversary, they hosted their family in sunny Hawaii.  Many family trips were enjoyed to the fullest in Canada, Glacier National Park, the Badlands, and their favorite, Alaska!  They celebrated their 65^th and 70^th anniversaries near Devils Lake and their 71^st in Rugby with their family.

Natalie is survived by her daughters, Naomi (Dr. William C. Brose) and Vicki (John S. Jenks); grandchildren, Lara (Tommy) Brose-Willman, Micah Brose, and Meaghan (Ryan) Ruch; great grandchildren, Zach and Sophia Brose-Willman, and Charlotte Ruch; sister-in-law, Marian Guss of Minot; several nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Inez Halvorson, Lylis Allison and Patricia Gustafson; brothers, Lawrence, Donald and Dwight and her beloved husband, Allan.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Rugby with burial in the Ox Creek Cemetery, rural Rolette.  Pastor Nathan Steen, officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Saturday.
