Pearl Josephine Owens

Pearl Josephine (Henricks) Owens, the daughter of Ora and Opal (Belt) Henricks was born in the rural home of her parents in Crocus Township, Towner County North Dakota on February 17th, 1923.  She died at the age of 91 years on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota

Pearl was raised in the home of her parents in Crocus Township where she attended a country school near her home.  She completed her education, graduating valedictorian of the Class of 1941 at Egeland High School, Egeland, North Dakota.  Following high school, she was united in marriage to Fred Owens in Cando.  Following their marriage the couple made their homes, farmed and raised their family of eight children in the rural communities of Egeland, York, Wolford and Knox, North Dakota.  Pearl was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.  Fred died January 28th, 1972.  Following his death, she moved to Rugby where she worked at the Cornerstone Café and retired from the Harold S. Haaland Home dietary department.  After retirement, Pearl volunteered countless hours at the Heart of America Care Center.

Pearl was a long standing member of Bethany Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, loved an adventure and hearing about her children and grandchildren’s  life achievements and their adventures.  Her affection for cooking and baking made her well known for her fried chicken and divinity candy.  On the lighter side, she enjoyed coffee hour with her friends and family, playing the guitar, was an accomplished singer, crocheting, sewing and tending her flower and vegetable gardens..

She is survived by one son, Rick and his wife, Sandie of Jamestown; three daughters, Vicky Slaubaugh of New Paris, Indiana, Bobbie and her husband, Chuck Welk of Grand Rapids, Minnesota and Jackie and husband, Brent Cassavant of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Terry and Larry Owens; two daughters, Diane Patnaude and Penny Voeller; and her parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 12th at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby with spring burial in the Leeds Lutheran Cemetery, Leeds.  Pastor Dana Holter, officiate.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday with a prayer and sharing of memories service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on for one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Monday.
