Pius Joseph Hoffert

Pius Joseph Hoffert, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Keller) Hoffart was born in the home of his parents on their family farm in Elverum Township, Pierce County, North Dakota on August 5, 1924.  He died at the age of 88 years on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.

Pius was raised on the family farm and received his education from the Silva school.  He married Rose Wentz and the couple raised their three children on the family farm.  After 55 years of active farming, he moved to Rugby in the fall of 2000, as his continued love for farming he began to be an avid gardener.  In August of 2011, he moved to Solmonson’s Senior Living until September 2012 when he made his final move to the Heart of America Care Center.  Pius was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church, loved playing cards and enjoyed fishing and traveling with his family.  He was a very proud father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Pius is survived by his daughter, Karen (Mike) Christenson of Rugby; a son, Tim (Hana) Hoffert of Fargo; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Hager of Rugby and Barbara Piatz of Devils Lake; a brother, Philip (Lilia) Hoffert of Los Angeles, California; a sister-in-law, Helen Hoffert of Minot; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by a son Kermit; brothers, Tony, Ludwig, and Pete Hoffert; sisters, Mary Duchscher and Margaret Heilman; and his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial:  will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in the church cemetery.  Fr. Tom Graner, Celebrant and Fr. Thanaiah Marneni, Concelebrant.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby.  There will be no reviewal in the Church.

Rosary and Vigil prayers will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home.
