Regarda Brandon

Regarda (Schatz) Brandon, 100, peacefully went to heaven from her bed at Good Samaritan Care Center, in Bismarck, ND on February 7, 2014. She was born in Karlsruhe, ND to Christ and Katherina (Dosch) Schatz on January 26, 1914 as the second to last of fifteen children.

On August 4, 1934 she married Robert “Bob” Brandon, remaining his loving companion and farm wife for over 60 years of marriage until Bob’s death in October of 1998.  During their time together on earth, Bob and Regarda were inseparable; they loved working and interacting together on the farm they built a few miles east of Towner, ND. During their time on the farm, they milked cows, raised beef cattle and chickens, farmed various crops to feed their livestock and put in large gardens. They also loved and raised two children, a son, Clinton and a daughter, Shirley. As their future seven grandchildren came along, many days of summer vacations were spent staying with grandpa and grandma helping out on the farm. Regarda spent the majority of her life on the farm, but moved into Towner shortly before Bob passed away and later spent time in Rugby at the Holland Estates Assisted Living and finally moved to Bismarck to be closer to her daughter about two years ago.

Regarda was a wonderful farm wife, who cooked, cleaned, sewed, knitted, crocheted, gardened, and had a green thumb for the trees, shrubs and flowers that surrounded the farmhouse. She was well-known for her lutefisk, lefsa, and sausage making abilities at the Zion Lutheran Church Ladies Circle and rarely did anyone who visited the farm ever go without a meal or homemade baked goods and coffee. Evenings would find a good card game, knitting and crocheting, a short car ride just to see the scenery and maybe a treat at the Taste Freeze to fill the time. During her later years of life, Regarda loved playing games like Bingo, listening to music, church service, having her fingernails painted, and visiting with friends and family. Although the last six months of her life were a greater struggle to engage with the life she so dearly loved to interact in, until her last few days, she still displayed some of the witty personality that made her so beloved and remembered to friends and family.

Regarda is survived by her daughter Shirley Erhardt of Mandan, ND; daughter-in-law Donna Brandon of Powell, WY; grandson Shane (special friend, Gillian) Erhardt of Craven, SASK; granddaughters Kristy (Peco) Lamus of Overland Park, KS; Carla (Dennis) Nelson of Mandan, ND; Klinette Brandon of Powell, WY; Anita (Jason)  Wirtz of Bismarck, ND and Jamie (Tim) Krous of Mandan, ND as well as seven great-grandchildren: Tyler, Trevor, and Hayden Brandon, Garrett Nelson, Kalin Lamus, Brayden and Teagen Krous, a few nieces and nephews, and various dear friends. Regarda is preceded in death by her husband; one son, Clinton; a grandson, Kerby Brandon; six brothers, eight sisters, a son-in-law, Ray Erhardt, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Towner, ND with spring burial in the Union Cemetery, Towner. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Anderson Funeral Home in Towner, ND and one hour before the funeral services at the church on Friday.

Posted Condolences:

Bless the memory of Regarda. She was such a good friend to my parents.(Chester and Stella Anfinson) They had so much fun together. Especially their card playing, dancing and lutefisk suppers. Sorry I couldn't attend the funeral. Thinking of all of you at your time of loss.
Sincerely Jeanette Brothers

I worked at the Haaland Home in the activity department during the years Regarda lived there. I don't have to tell you what a wonderful woman she was, but it was indeed a pleasure to come to an activity and have her join in. She had a great sense of humor, and I am glad I had the opportunity to know her. I am sorry for your loss.
