Rickie "Rick" Jay Bier

Rickie "Rick" J. Bier of Davis Junction, IL passed on to eternal life on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was born on July 21, 1963, to Donald and Lucille (Schumaker) Bier in Medina, N.D. Rick graduated from Rugby High School, Rugby, N.D. in 1983 where he participated in wrestling, track and football. He was named to the North Dakota All State Football Team and played in the Shrine Game. Rick graduated from Valley City State in North Dakota where he was All-District Football. After graduation Rick moved to Rockford where he worked at Brown's Sporting Goods before joining the faculty of Rockford Lutheran High School as a History teacher in 1992. While at LHS, he coached football, wrestling and track. "Mr. Bier" will be missed by all of his former and current students as well as co-workers at Rockford Lutheran. Rick was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Cubs; there was certainly an Angel in the Outfield for Game #7!
Rick is survived by his mother, Lucille Mayer of Medina, ND; son, Jacob Bier of Davis Junction; brothers, Roger Bier of Davis Junction & Terry (Jessica) Bier of Salida, CA; sister Connie (Jason) Schneider of Harvey, ND; 3 nieces & 1 nephew; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Rick's family would like to thank his caregivers Laura, Tina & Jenna and many others through the many years of his disability.

All memorials are to be made to Rockford Lutheran High School in remembrance of Rick.


Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby with burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of services on Thursday at the church.
