Robert Duane "Bob" Grove

Robert Duane “Bob” Grove, the son of Sigfred and Ione Grove was born on December 14, 1951 in Rugby, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 63 years on Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Bob was raised in the home of his parents and was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church.  He attended Lincoln Country School for first grade and Rugby Public Schools, graduating in 1969.  He attended North Dakota State University, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Vocational Agriculture.  He taught Vocational Agriculture and the FFA Advisor in Des Lacs and Halliday, North Dakota.  In 1980, he came home to assist his dad with farming.  What started off as a temporary position, became his new passion in life.  Farming allowed him the freedom to farm the land, raise beef cattle, donkeys and exotic birds, and also substitute teach in the Vo Ag Department at Rugby High School.

Bob had a wonderful array of interests, woodworking, construction, cattle judging, ice fishing, music, gardening, artistic talents that crossed many areas and playing cards.  Uncle Bob loved entertaining all the nieces, nephews by playing the accordion and piano.  He planted pine trees along Highway 3 for folks to enjoy for years to come.  His taxidermy and restored buggy are part of the Museum in Rugby.  He was an active member and church council member of Bethel Lutheran Church.  He cared deeply for others and loved the old and young for all they had to share.  He enjoyed Life!

Bob is survived by his mother, Ione of Rugby; brothers, Warren (Kathy) and Gary (Mary), all of Rugby; sisters, Patricia (Jim) Corbit of Hebron, Kentucky, and Brenda (Dennis) Jundt of Rugby; 14 nieces and nephews; 19 great nieces and nephews; aunts, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father in 2009 and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 5th at the First Lutheran Church in Rugby with spring burial in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Rugby.  Pastor Mike Pretzer and Pastor Sharon Baker, officiating.

Visiting hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and will continue for one hour prior to the time of services on Thursday at the church.

Prayer services and sharing of memories will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Seeing this tonight just really shocked me I was a high school student when Bob taught Ag in Halliday. He was just such an awesome guy who was always smiling and became a good friend to me however when he left Halliday we lost touch and I often wondered about how he was knowing he had gone back to Rugby. My sincere and heartfelt sympathy to all of the family RIP Bob

To the Grove Family,
My senior year of high school was the first year girls were allowed in ag classes at Halliday and Bob was our teacher. Jane McMahen Kieson and I had great time in the sophomore ag class where we did some woodworking, learned to weld, and hatched some chicken eggs that year. We called Bob "Groovy Grove" and very much enjoyed class with this encouraging and fun teacher. It is nice to read about the interests he developed and shared with others. I am grateful that our paths crossed in life. My sympathy to his family.

Prayers are with you in this time of loss. Many years ago, while attending Dickinson State College, I was the kid sister to Barb who was invited to hike in the Badlands. I enjoyed Bob's horse collar mirror and milk can stools he used to craft and share with friends! He will be missed! Always a smile!
