Rose Mary (Axtman) Heintz, the daughter of John P. and Caroline (Krim) Axtman was born on January 29, 1939 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, North Dakota.  She died at the age of 77 years on Monday, February 15, 2016 near Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota on route home to Rugby from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Rose was reared in the rural Tuscarora Township home of her parents and received her primary education the Brazil #2 School and completed her education at the Sacred Heart Academy in Minot, graduating in the class of 1957.  On October 14, 1958, Rose was united in marriage to Martin Heintz at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta.  The couple made their home on a ranch in rural Orrin, McHenry County.  A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Rose also worked hand-n-hand with Martin with the ranching and field work that went along with it.  She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Orrin, where she served as a CCD instructor and principal for a number of years, a former church council and cemetery board member.  In 1995, Rose and Martin moved off the ranch and into Rugby, and tried very hard to retire and not always succeeding at it.  The couple joined Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby where Rose became very active in the Confraternity of Christian Mother, as she had been at Sacred Heart.

Her hobbies were painting on canvas, quilting, all types of craftwork, playing cards, canning, and baking.  She loved being with her grand and great grandchildren, bowling, playing pool, vegetable and flower gardening.  If Rose was given a project to do, her creativeness and skills would make it happen . . . there wasn’t much she could not accomplish.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Martin; two sons, Curtis of Rugby and Martin Jr. (Terrie) of Balta; two grandchildren, Brittany and Cody (Molly) Heintz; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judy (Christ) Heintz of Rugby and Mary Ann (Ted) Scherr of West Fargo; three brothers, Pius (Eileen) Axtman, John P. Jr. (Linda) Axtman and Michael (Kathy) Axtman, all of Rugby; many nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and Sherry Adam, the daughter she never had.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20^th at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with spring burial in the church cemetery.  Father Tom Graner, Celebrant.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with a rosary and vigil prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. and will continue on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m., all in the Anderson Funeral Home, Rugby.  There will be no reviewal in the church.
