Rose R. (Salwey) Voeller, the daughter of John and Rosalie (Selzler) Salwey was born on October 29, 1925 in the family home in rural Orrin, North Dakota. She died at the age of 91 years on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.
Rose, one of thirteen children, was raised on the family farm and attended rural school. Being the oldest girl, she helped care for her younger siblings. She grew up during the Great Depression and learned her frugality and conservative ways, which carried throughout her life. On October 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Pius T. Voeller at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Orrin. Together they raised their seven children. In her later years, she was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers and a member of Little Flower Catholic Church. She was a ten-year participant in the Foster grandparents program at Ely Elementary and loved to be greeted by her students. Rose worked at the Good Samaritan Hospital in housekeeping, laundry and as a CNA and her favorite position was in the nursery taking care of the new born babies. She was an avid volunteer at the Haaland Home and Long-term care center for many years. Rose enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rose is survived by her children, Richard Voeller of Casselton, Gerri (John) Awalt of Coon Rapids, MN, Carol (Ron) Torgerson of Silva, Amy (Ron) Jaeger of Coon Rapids, MN, Dennis Voeller of Three Forks, MT, Bernie (John) Stanfield of Waterville, WA and Vicki Upton of Shakopee, MN; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Salwey of Max; sisters, Frances Fettig of Minot and Betty Zacher of Balta; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; 9 siblings; grandchildren, Roddie Voeller, John Awalt and Tara Torgerson; and her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with spring burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Orrin. Father Tom Graner, officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby. There will be no reviewal in the church. |
