Rose R. Voeller

Rose R.  (Salwey) Voeller, the daughter of John and Rosalie (Selzler) Salwey was born on October 29, 1925 in the family home in rural Orrin, North Dakota.  She died at the age of 91 years on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Rose, one of thirteen children, was raised on the family farm and attended rural school.  Being the oldest girl, she helped care for her younger siblings.  She grew up during the Great Depression and learned her frugality and conservative ways, which carried throughout her life.  On October 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Pius T. Voeller at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Orrin.  Together they raised their seven children.  In her later years, she was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Christian Mothers and a member of Little Flower Catholic Church.  She was a ten-year participant in the Foster grandparents program at Ely Elementary and loved to be greeted by her students.  Rose worked at the Good Samaritan Hospital in housekeeping, laundry and as a CNA and her favorite position was in the nursery taking care of the new born babies.  She was an avid volunteer at the Haaland Home and Long-term care center for many years.  Rose enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rose is survived by her children, Richard Voeller of Casselton, Gerri (John) Awalt of Coon Rapids, MN, Carol (Ron) Torgerson of Silva, Amy (Ron) Jaeger of Coon Rapids, MN, Dennis Voeller of Three Forks, MT, Bernie (John) Stanfield of Waterville, WA and Vicki Upton of Shakopee, MN; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Salwey of Max; sisters, Frances Fettig of Minot and Betty Zacher of Balta; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband; 9 siblings; grandchildren, Roddie Voeller, John Awalt and Tara Torgerson; and her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with spring burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Orrin.  Father Tom Graner, officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby.  There will be no reviewal in the church.

Posted Condolences:

I am extending sympathy in the death of Rose, your Mom, grandmother and great-grandmother and other family members.  Your Mom was a delightful woman.  I visited her from time to time at the Haaland Home and visited with her when she attended the Church Suppers in Orrin until they no longer had them.  She always made me laugh.  She knew so much history of my parents, their siblings and my grandparents.  How fortunate you all were to have her in your life.  I am sure she is catching up with all the Orrin folks in Heaven.  My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

We have just heard of Rose's passing and want to send our condolences.  We enjoyed having Rose in the Foster Grandparent Program and know that she made a difference in the lives of many children through her service at Ely School.  Karen Hillman, FGP Program
