Roy E. Kirchofner

Roy E. Kirchofner, the son of John and Anne (Miller) Kirchofner, was born on March 28, 1934 in Pierce County, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 81 years on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, North Dakota.

Roy was raised on the family farm of his parents Northeast of Rugby and received his education in a country school near his home.  Growing up he worked on the farm.  On October 20, 1959, he was united in marriage to Loretta Young at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby.  The couple made their home in Rugby their entire married life.  Roy worked as an electrician, plumber and truck driver until he took a position with Pierce County as an Equipment Operator, retiring after 35 years of service in 1997.  He was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Rugby Eagles.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, tinkering on things, refurbishing antique farm equipment, bird watching, tending his apple trees and loved to waltz with Loretta.  He also enjoyed a trip every now and then to the casino.  Loretta died on June 14, 2014.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Russ) Steier of Rugby; a grandson, Russell (Julie) Steier II of Rugby; a brother, Edward Kirchofner of Rugby; a sister, Betty (Arnold) Kraft of Karlsruhe; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Mark; brothers, Jacob, Walter, Sebastian & John; sisters, Josephine Geisinger, Lena Nygaard, and Cecelia Clark; and his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby, with burial in the church cemetery.  Father T T Paulraj, Celebrant.

Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Rugby with a Rosary and Vigil Prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  There will be no reviewal at the church.
