Rochus William "Roy" Scheet

Rochus William ‘Roy’ Scheet, the son of Gabriel and Gertrud (Harty) Scheet was born on March 31, 1914 at his parent’s farm in Balta, North Dakota.  He died at the age of 99 years on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby.

Roy was raised on his parent’s farm in rural Balta and received his education in the Balta School and attended Mount Carmel Catholic Church.  As a young man he enjoyed the “Old-Time” music and attended many of the areas local dances.  There, he met and later married Hjordis Johanson of Wolford on November 6, 1938 in Fargo, North Dakota.  She preceded him in death on April 19, 2006.

Roy worked in the farming industry most of his life and owned a farm implement business in Rugby, for a period of time and did auto mechanic work in Devils Lake.  He was involved in community activities such as youth little league baseball and had a love for fishing.  After retiring to Minnesota for a time, he moved back to Devils Lake in 1980 where he was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.  Roy made his home at the Odd Fellows Home in Devils Lake until he moved to the Heart of America Care Center in May of 2012.  He enjoyed visiting and playing cards with his friends.

Roy is survived by his children, Diane Yvonne Myrum of Duluth, MN and Robert J. (Donna) Scheet of Coleraine, MN; grandchildren, Kathy Essom, Kevin Myrum, Susan (Rama) Ramaswany, and Karen (James) Helgestad; five great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by a son-in- law, Tenny Myrum; brothers, Edmund, Jacob, Xavier, John, Gabriel, Nicademus, Anton, and Joseph; sisters, Katherine Vetsch, Johanna Hager, and Mary Reiger; and his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 25th at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Balta.  Father Tom Graner, Celebrant

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby. There will be no reviewal in the Church.
